The Oral Hygiene Instructions You Need to Care for Your Toddler’s Smile

Posted .

Our dentist, Dr. David Suttie, strongly encourages you to take proper care of your toddler’s smile. This means you need to help your toddler keep up on oral hygiene. Oral hygiene is vital for a top-notch oral health and smile. So, to help your toddler clean and care for their teeth and gums each day, our dentist is happy to give you the oral hygiene instructions you need. Those instructions are:

-Brush their teeth twice a day: To do so, use a child’s soft-bristled toothbrush and child’s toothpaste. If your child still swallows the paste, make sure the paste is free of fluoride and is safe to swallow. As you brush, try to make it a fun and entertaining experience so your child likes to clean their smile.

-Floss their teeth once a day: Flossing is necessary around age 3. This is because all of the teeth have grown into place and they are tightly knit together, which means the toothbrush can no longer thoroughly clean between the teeth. So, make sure to floss their little chompers daily.

-Bring them into our office: Your child should receive a professional dental cleaning and exam every six months. This is because our treatments can deeply clean their teeth and gums and help them prevent dental issues. It can also give us a chance to check for problems and give you tips to help your child’s smile.
